Ioana Surpateanu is a Web3 entrepreneur. She is the founder of Strategy W, a crypto and emerging tech advisory firm designed to accelerate specific verticals within the Metaverse and the DeFi 2.0 ecosystems. She is Chief Innovation Officer for Swash, a Web3 data monetisation platform and holds executive and advisory board positions for a variety of Metaverse and DeFi projects - Metalinq, Poolz Finance, The Block Space. She sits on the Executive Board of the Multichain Asset Managers Association, a global community of organisations working to transform asset management through blockchain technology. As of January 2023, she will join the Board of Crypto UK as NED, leading on DeFi 2.0, next-gen NFTs, GameFi and DAOs. She is the founder of League of Meta’s, the first ever female-led Web3 and Metaverse advocacy group and an OG mentor for Outlier Ventures’ Basecamp Accelerator where she’s supported and accelerated projects in the Polygon, Hedera, Polkadot and Farfetch Dream Assembly cohorts. She was an expert contributor to Citigroup’s GPS Report: Metaverse and Money: Decrypting the Future. Prior to expanding her focus to a multitude of DeFi and Metaverse projects, she was Chief Strategy Officer at DIA and Principal for DIA Labs, an entity which she designed to promote women in emerging tech, experiment with various oracle use cases beyond financial data permutations and foster interactions with policymakers and financial services incumbents. Before her immersion in Web3 tech, Ioana was Co-Head of European Gov’t Affairs and Crypto Strategy lead for Citigroup, where she coordinated policymaker interactions on emerging tech and crypto. In addition, she seconded into Citi’s markets infrastructure investments team to work on FinTech investments. In parallel, she was Vice-chair of the European Parliament Outreach Task Force in AmCham EU. In that capacity, she led the EU Institutions outreach strategy with focus on high-profile political leaders and entities throughout Europe. She joined Citi from the European Parliament where she was Head of Cabinet for the VP of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group and senior adviser on issues related to the digital single market (DSM), EU budget and the inception of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) Ioana holds two master’s degrees in politics, economics and international relations from the University of Tel Aviv and University of Bucharest . She appears on Innovate Finance’s WIF Powerlist in the Senior Leaders category and was shortlisted for the WIBF Tech Star Award. She is a competitive skier, occasional Kart racer and Formula One aficionado.
